Standing to be retained at London Road?
Fans, council and club officials try out safe standing
PUFC club mascot gives rail seats the paws up!
October 2011. Peterborough United present a unique scenario in the safe standing debate. The club currently has terraces at both ends of its ground and can officially permit fans to stand on these despite being in the Championship. This it can do for a total of 3 seasons at this level. Then, under current regulations, the ground will have to become all-seater. So when the Supporters Trust asked us to go along to spread the rail seats message, off we went!
Peterborough, however, is unique for another reason: the ground is owned by Peterborough Council, which plans to develop it. Fans and football club are keen to retain an element of standing at the redeveloped ground, and the council are not saying no. On our visit to London Road in September, Councillor Janet Goodwin, Cabinet Advisor to the Leader, took a good look at rail seats along with Richard Hodgson, Head of Strategic Projects, Peterborough United Chief Executive Bob Symns and others. Feedback was positive and the FSF will continue to work with all parties to try to achieve the goal of a modern, redeveloped stadium with purpose-built, safe standing facilities.
