Standing is tops - Show official League stats
July 2012. Official statistics released last week by the Football League show that the only ground still to have terraces in the Championship was the most popular destination for visiting fans last season. Of all 72 Football League grounds away supporters went in greater average numbers to Peterborough than anywhere else.
London Road no. 1 destination for away fans - Official!
In topping the table, London Road beat what might have been regarded as more likely candidates to carry off the honour of away fans' favourite ground, such as West Ham's Upton Park or Birmingham City's St Andrews. But no, it was 99-year old London Road that proved the most popular.
Could it be just a coincidence that the ground has terraces!?
By contrast, the two least attractive Championship grounds to visiting fans were modern bowls with, of course, no standing accommodation. These were Cardiff City's brand new stadium, attracting just 626 away fans on average to its games and Middlesborough's modern Riverside stadium, again - of course - with no standing areas, which only 615 visiting supporters attended on average for league games last season. This compares with 1,971 average away fans at Peterborough! Well done London Road!
