Labour promise safe standing by August 2020

In mid-October 2019, shadow sports minister Dr Rosena Allin-Khan promised football fans that if the Labour Party wins a winter election, it will introduce safe standing in time for the 2020/21 season.

This announcement follows up on Labour formally making support for safe standing party policy in 2018.

Now the shadow sports minister has gone one step further and given a commitment to put that policy into practice within months of taking office.

At the time of writing support for safe standing is also official party policy of the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party. The official Conservative Party policy continues to be to refuse 72 clubs permission to offer fans a choice of sitting or standing at matches.
