Man City chairman "huge fan" of safe standing

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak has declared himself a "huge fan" of safe standing and says "I would love for us to have a safe standing area".

Speaking in an end-of-season interview with the club's in-house TV channel, he interrupted a line of questioning on plans for stadium development to volunteer his view on safe standing, saying:

"You didn't ask me about safestanding so I'l pre-empt you.

"That's one of the areas that we're certainly considering.

"I'm a huge fan.

"I think it's such an important part of the game.

"I would love for us to have a safe standing area. That would be great for the fans and the players and the Etihad atmosphere."

Behind the scenes the club has been supportive of the concept for many years, with the Safe Standing Roadshow visiting the Etihad way back in 2012.

This is, however, the first time that a senior figure at the club has publicly stated their desire to see safe standing at their stadium.

So a big THANKS is due to Khaldoon Al-Mubarak and the club's executive team for giving the campaign the backing of the Premier League champions!
