Why politicians should back safe standing ... No. 1

1. Because the ban on standing at football is iniquitous.

Rugby

Spectators can attend a rugby match at stadia such as the Madejski Stadium in Reading (home of London Irish), the DW Stadium in Wigan (home of Wigan Warriors), the KC Stadium in Hull (Hull FC), Old Trafford (Super League Grand Final) and others, including Wembely, and can choose to watch the game standing up. They are breaking no rules and will not get any grief from the stewards. They can simply enjoy watching their chosen sport in the way they choose.

Football

The same spectators can attend a football match at stadia such as the Madejski Stadium in Reading (home of Reading FC), the DW Stadium in Wigan (home of Wigan Athletic), the KC Stadium in Hull (Hull City), Old Trafford (Manchester United) and others, including Wembely, and cannot choose to watch the game standing up. If they do they are breaking ground regulations and will get grief from the stewards. Despite being in the very same ground as hosts rugby games on other occasions when standing is permitted, they will not be able to enjoy watching their chosen sport in the way they choose. That can't be right!
